Things to see around Aignay-le-Duc
La Demoiselle lies in the heart of the Châtillonnais, in Côte-d'Or (Burgundy), inside the Forests National Park, between Châtillon-sur-Seine, Montbard and Dijon. Here are a few ideas for outings on foot, by bike, by motorbike or by car.
In the village
- The church of Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul, a listed historic monument: begun in the late 12th century and remodelled in the 13th century by Beatrice of Champagne, Duchess of Burgundy. You can see it from the bedrooms.
- Old houses with glazed-tile roofs, wash-houses and the remains of the walls of the former castellany of the Dukes of Burgundy.
Walking and nature
- The Forests National Park (Parc national de forêts), created in late 2019, the youngest of France's national parks: beech and oak forests, valleys, tufa marshes and waymarked trails. Aignay-le-Duc is one of the Park's member villages. Park website (in French) (new window)
- The Cirque de la Coquille at Étalante: a protected natural site where the Coquille river rises. The waymarked "Cirque de la Coquille" walk starts from the village square.
- The source of the Seine at Source-Seine, and many quiet country roads for cycling and motorbiking.
Burgundy heritage, less than an hour away
- Châtillon-sur-Seine: the Musée du Pays Châtillonnais and the Treasure of Vix (the famous Vix krater), and the Douix spring.
- Fontenay Abbey, a Cistercian abbey on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
- Alesia, at Alise-Sainte-Reine: the MuséoParc and the site of the battle between Caesar and Vercingetorix.
- Flavigny-sur-Ozerain, one of the "Most Beautiful Villages of France", famous for its aniseed sweets.
- Bussy-Rabutin Castle.
- Dijon: the historic centre, the Palace of the Dukes and the International City of Gastronomy and Wine.
